Black Leopards put their recent defeats behind them when they beat Santos 2-0 in their Premiership match at Giyani Stadium yesterday.

Leopards scored through their trusted forward Myron Shongwe, who struck two minutes from the interval.

Shongwe received a great header from Fischer Kondowe, who has improved a lot lately.

It was Kondowe's turn to go into the scorers' sheet when the Malawian scored with a low shot in the 75th minute. Lidoda Duvha had gone into the match with four consecutive defeats.

The People's Team were the first to threaten to open the scoring, but Erwin Isaacs was denied by Leopards' Namibian goalkeeper Ephraim Tjihonge in the sixth minute.

Tjihonge got the nod ahead of the side's first-choice goalkeeper, Mashudu Mamphita, who manned the posts in their 2-3 defeat against Orlando Pirates at the same venue last week.

Santos continued to exert much pressure on the hosts but their attempts by Thando Mngomeni and Ryan Chapman were thwarted by Leopards' defenders and Tjihonge.

l In Mafikeng, Platinum Stars played to a scoreless draw against Bidvest Wits at Mmabatho Stadium yesterday.

It was clear from the opening whistle that both sides would share the spoils as they failed to convert chances.

Stars failed to utilise their chances in the first half, with Dingane Masanabo and Koketso Mmotong being the main culprits.

The Tycoons could have claimed the three points through George Mofokeng, but his header was saved by Moeneeb Josephs.

The Students were desperate for a win after crushing 2-5 to Ajax Cape Town in the Mother City last Wednesday.

But the game ended in a worthy goalless draw.
