Two more police officers were murdered in separate incidents at the weekend in Gauteng in what appears to be a calculated onslaught on the law enforcers.

Yesterday's murders bring to 10 the number of police officers killed in just over two months.

A 37-year-old police inspector, whose name is being withheld until his next-of-kin have been informed, was shot dead at his cousin's home in Ruimsig Country Estate, Muldersdrift. The shooting took place at about 2am.

A suspect, 27, has been arrested in connection with the murder and is expected to appear in court soon.

In Mamelodi, Pretoria, a 33-year-old police constable was shot dead during an attempted hijacking on Saturday. The constable was attacked in his car by three men.
