The ANC at Ngwako Ramalepe branch in Modjadjiskloof, Limpopo was forced to postpone nominations for candidates who will contest in the race for the top six leadership positions at party's conference in December.
This after an intoxicated group of party members alleged to be pro-Mbeki, chanted slogans outside the venue of the meeting.
The group allegedly threatened to damage members' vehicles.
The group arrived at the venue few minutes after the meeting started on Thursday night.
Branch Secretary Reuben Mosila said they were forced to postpone the nominations because the behaviour of the group threatened the security of the members.
He said continued power disruptions also contributed to the the decision to postpone the nominations.
It is reported that the electricity disruptions started a few minutes after the group arrived at the venue.
"We felt this will give the thugs a chance to damage our vehicles without being noticed."
A source within the ANC claimed the unruly group was led by senior members of the ANC in the area, who were reportedly not satisfied with certain arrangements regarding the nominations.
"The meeting is scheduled to take place sometime this week, and this time we will make sure all the problems we experienced are avoided," Mosila said.
Mosila said they planned to step up security at the venue of the meeting to ensure that the nominations were not disrupted again.
Another ANC member told Sowetan, that the behaviour of the group was an act of sabotage.
He said the group did not want to see the other group nominate the party's deputy president Jacob Zuma.
Meanwhile about 400 ANC branches in Limpopo have until the end of this week to submit their nomination lists to the province.
