It may be early days, but a repeat of Saturday's performance by SuperSport United could see them struggle to qualify for a top eight spot.
This after Matsatsantsa a Pitori luckily edged out a determined AmaZulu 1-0 in an uninspiring Absa Premiership match at Super Stadium in Atteridgeville.
A draw could have been a true reflection of the match but lady luck smiled on the Pretoria side in the second half.
A vital goal netted by United defender Ricardo Katza with a potent head in the 49th minute and helped along by Usuthu goalkeeper Tshepo Motshoeneng was enough to seal it.
Even United coach Gavin Hunt concurred that his charges had put up an inept performance and lambasted them after the match.
"They played rubbish today. Lack of concentration is a cause for concern because week in and week out we miss clear-cut chances.
"How do you expect to win when the players run out of ideas at crucial moments in the game. They sometimes lost shape and confidence right inside their opponents' penalty box," said Hunt.
His counterpart Clive Barker strongly believed they were unlucky not to have shared the spoils.
"We were the better side throughout the process but failed to use our opportunities effectively," said Barker.
The KwaZulu-Natal outfit were denied a point in the 50th minute when United's Tsietsi Mahoa cleared a goal-bound shot from the boot of Dumisanai Ngwenya.
In the 69th minute, Shoes Moshoeu's swerving strike from a free-kick was acrobatically parried over the bar by United's ever-alert goalkeeper Dennis Onyango.
