Fifteen armed men robbed four security guards and a woman of their cellphones and money at the Shoprite-Checkers supermarket at Protea Gardens in Soweto yesterday.
Captain Nomvula Mbhense said the men failed to enter the supermarket's premises and robbed the five instead.
Mbhense said the men tied their victims with ropes and gagged them before they fled.
The robbers locked the five in the security room at the complex.
No one has been arrested and police are investigating.
