The family of a Limpopo boy who died in hospital after breaking his leg, has blamed the Nkhensani Hospital for his death.

Amukelani Mahlawule, 17, of Giyani, died at the hospital last Friday, a week after he was admitted. He will be buried tomorrow.

His grandfather, July Mahlawule, said: "I am not happy with the way my grandson was treated. We sent him to be treated for his leg injury, but each time we went there, we found nothing had been done and his leg was only wrapped in a bandage."

Mahlawule said he approached the hospital management with community leader, Phineas Chauke.

"We went to ask them why he was not being treated and they made excuses and when we went to see the boy, he had died," he said.

Mahlawule said the boy's mother, Florah, "is distraught because the last thing she expected when she sent her boy to the hospital was that he would die".

Chauke said: "The boy only had a broken leg and we were surprised when we found he had died."

Limpopo health spokesman Phuti Seloba had not responded by the time of going to press.
