Sibusiso Vilane says his dream to become the first black person in Africa to walk unsupported and unassisted to the South Pole next month is on track.

Sibusiso Vilane says his dream to become the first black person in Africa to walk unsupported and unassisted to the South Pole next month is on track.

Vilane told Sowetan yesterday he is physically fit and in good shape for the contest.

"I have been pulling tyres, running and cycling to hone my performance for the past months," said an optimistic Vilane, who promised to reach his goal.

The Harmony Gold team athlete will be accompanied by Alex Harris on the trip to Antarctica, the world's the southern most continent. They are facing the daunting challenge of walking 1200km in 60 days.
