This commission of inquiry was instituted in the face of a public outcry arising from the alleged banning of political commentators. Advocate Mpofu promised that the inquiry would be impartial and transparent.
The SABC subsequently refused to disclose the commission's findings but based its refusal on the flimsy excuse that it did not accept the findings.
By this action, SABC executives refused to comply with the Promotion of Access to Information Act and created a climate of suspicion around their actions.
It was irrelevant whether or not they accepted the results of the inquiry.
Even worse, Icasa has now sided with the SABC, in utter disregard for its mandate of being impartial and objective.
The Icasa ruling and the subsequent gleeful statement from the SABC were so similar that they could well have originated from the same mouth.
In allowing the SABC to continue to conceal the report, Icasa contradicts its claims that it has a strong belief in open and transparent processes.
They should therefore both stop stonewalling and release the report.
