Murder and rape charges have been dropped against a youth who was charged with four others for the brutal killing in February of 14-year-old Thato Radebe of Emndeni, Soweto.

But Nqobile Sibisi, 18, is not off the hook yet.

Protea magistrate Herman Badenhorst yesterday said he might be withdrawing the charges against Sibisi but that did not guarantee his freedom.

Earlier the prosecution had handed in DNA evidence linking the semen found in condoms scattered next to Thato's body to the other four accused. They are Stanley Masemola, 20, Mandla Mtshali, 20, Themba Mndaweni, 18, and Thabiso Ganta, 21.

The case was postponed to January 8.

The body of the Grade 8 Bedfordview High School pupil was found in the veld at Emndeni, Soweto, on February 3. She had been raped, stabbed and stoned.
