I would like to congratulate Richard Maponya for his wonderful achievement. He has ultimately realised his dream to build Soweto's largest shopping mall, the Maponya Mall.

I would like to congratulate Richard Maponya for his wonderful achievement. He has ultimately realised his dream to build Soweto's largest shopping mall, the Maponya Mall.

Not only is he Sowetans' source of inspiration, but he is also a role model for all budding black business people in South Africa and Africa at large.

For too long we have endured the shame and evil of cheap labour and deprivation from such opportunities. It is high time that previously disadvantaged communities take responsibility for our country's economic development.

Motivated by the Sowetan article Maponya Mall's Tops by Amanda Ngudle last week, I decided to check out the mall.

I was delighted by the professionalism: good service at the stores, accommodating and disciplined security personnel as well as a sparkling and well-managed environment.

I learnt that anyone can do anything if they believe, plan and work hard.

I enjoyed a cartoon movie for the very first time at one of the Ster-Kine cinemas and opened my first clothing account at Edgars. I thoroughly enjoyed the five-star treatment I received from the friendly staff.
