Fund holds on to inheritance

The Mine Workers Provident Fund has kept the heirs of Samuel Mabunda waiting for their inheritance for the past two years.

The Mine Workers Provident Fund has kept the heirs of Samuel Mabunda waiting for their inheritance for the past two years.

Ndanganeni Mabunda, one of the heirs, complained that the Mine Workers Provident Fund was withholding their money without reason.

Mabunda said his mother was also entitled to a monthly pension, but this has not been forthcoming.

His father worked for Randfontein Mines before he died in 2005.

Mabunda said his mother only received R29664 of the death payout. The trustees had to allocate a further amount of R90176 to the heirs, but they have not yet done so.

Mabunda's mother has, he said, been travelling from Venda to the fund's offices for nothing after she was promised a further R30000, he said. Romeo Masipa of the Mine Workers Provident Fund is investigating why the Mabunda heirs have had to wait this long to get their inheritance.
