The biggest threat to this year's matric examinations are power outages, the Gauteng education department said yesterday.

"Our major concern on a daily basis is the current Eskom-linked practice of power shedding," said education MEC Angie Motshekga.

The load-shedding has already affected the compu-typing exam that was written on October 9.

Matric exams began on October 3 and are due to end on November 21 when pupils throughout the country will be writing a history paper.
