Five teenagers and a 28-year-old man are expected to appear in the Vereeniging magistrate's court today in connection with the murder of a Vaal businessman.

They were arrested by De Deur police on Sunday after being on the run for five months.

Spokesman Constable Ntshidiseng Phakoe said the male suspects, aged between 15 and 28, and an 18-year-old girl were arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing Molefi Molawa, 67.

Molawa was shot dead at his tuck-shop on May 19 at Ironsyde.

Phakoe said that on the night of the murder, two men went into Molawa's store pretending to buy cigarettes, but one of them pulled out a firearm and shot him.

Phakoe said Molawa was robbed of his cellphone, R708 worth of airtime vouchers and cash.

Phakoe said police arrested the girl in Boipatong. She led police to the other five suspects.

"We traced her through Molawa's cellphone which was in her possession.

"She said her 28-year-old lover, who was also arrested, gave it to her," said Phakoe.

The boyfriend then told police that he had bought the phone from a 19-year-old who was also arrested.

All the suspects have been charged with Molawa's murder.
