A heated discussion is expected when the Premier Soccer League Board of Governors (BOG) meets in Sandton today to discuss a variety of issues.
Topping the agenda will be the contentious 10 percent commission bonuses to be paid out to the officials securing sponsorship for the league.
Ronnie Schloss, league chief operations officer, said the meeting will be attended by all the Premiership and First Division League clubs.
The BOG is the highest decision- making body of the PSL. It makes recommendations to the executive committee, a structure dealing with the day-to-day issues.
The PSL agreed in principle at its annual general meeting to accept a proposal to use internal expertise to source sponsorship.
At that stage, members felt it was better using their own people because outside companies charged between 20 and 25 percent commission for securing a sponsorship.
Influential soccer leaders like Kaizer Motaung, Anastasia Tsichlas and David Thidiela feel these officials should get the bonuses.
John Comitis and Jomo Sono are among the top officials against the idea. Comitis is on record as saying he will oppose the payment at any meeting, with Sono suggesting that the money should rather be used for development.
Today's meeting will also deal with the new television rights sponsorship deal, the R500 million Premiership sponsorship from Absa and radio broadcast rights.
The BOG looks set to rubber stamp the payment of commission bonuses.
