Despite repeated threats by President Thabo Mbeki against corrupt councillors over service delivery, the rot continues unabated in most municipalities.

And residents who have now run out of patience have turned to the courts for relief.

Residents of the Winnie Mandela informal settlement in Tembisa have laid fraud charges against certain Ekurhuleni Metro councillors who allocated RDP houses and serviced stands to people who did not qualify after allegedly accepting bribes.

The matter is being probed by the police but we urge the government to also launch an inquiry.
