October is Social Development Month.

The accent this year is on transforming and improving the early childhood development sector by encouraging owners or managers of creches and day care centres to register with the social services department.

Social Development Minister Zola Skweyiya and his nine provincial MECs urge people caring for or intending to care for more than six children aged from birth to six to register their sites.

Managers or owners whose centres meet the department's requirements will be trained, registered and approved. Those who do not qualify will be helped. There are definite benefits to register. The department will also train and provide funding where necessary.

To register, visit any provincial social development centre or call national social development department representatives Zingaphi Jakuja at 012-312-7381 or Jonas Mashigo at 012-312-7793 or provincial department representatives: Gauteng, Sello Mokoena or Fred Makoko at 011-355-7948; Mpumalanga, Dumisani Mlangeni at 013-766-3253; Limpopo, Phuti Seloba at 015-293-6054; KwaZulu-Natal, Dumisani Ngcobo at 031-341-7900 or Philani Jili at 033-341-9600; Northern Cape, Celine Morolong at 053-807-5600; Eastern Cape, Gcobani Mswana at 040-608-5755; Free State, Mondli Mvambo at 051-400-0209; North West, Simon Moope at 018-387-0255.
