A young mother is expected to appear in the Mkhuze magistrate's court on a charge of child abandonment after she allegedly left her six-hour-old baby unattended because, she told police, she "did not know how to raise him".
Police spokesman Jabulani Mdletshe said the baby boy was found by children on their way to school on Thursday morning in an open field in the Mange reserve at Mkhuze.
Police arrested the mother on Friday morning after receiving a tip-off from a concerned member of the community in the area.
