A popular national campaign helping to transform and improve the early childhood development sector is the Absa and Sowetan Early Childhood Development (ECD) Awards.
Other partners are the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation, the South African Congress for Early Childhood Development, Office on the Rights of the Child, the Department of Education and SABC Education.
To ensure that the competition effectively helps the sector, partners have created several key drivers for the project:
l Recognising the hard work and dedication that the sector invests in our children's future;
l Effective use of the strategic networks of all partners to reach individual practitioners, centres and organisations;
l Educating parents and caregivers of the importance of child development;
l Setting a standard to create a sector of highly-skilled ECD practitioners, centres and organisations.
Prizes are given for best practitioner,
home-based care centre, community-based care centre, resource and training centre.
