Thamae "Rasta" Motlatsi, born 1950 in Soweto, was always interested in helping his community.

He formed Rasta Burglar Proofing to help empower the youth through the transfer of skills in burglar proofing.

This led to his winning the Sowetan Community Builder of the month award twice in 1993.

Through these awards he managed to secure various business opportunities as he became a subcontractor for big companies like Murray & Roberts.

Motlatsi was indeed a successful businessman.

He diversified into the funeral business and set up Rasta Funeral Services in 1998.

He became a member of the Soweto Funeral Undertaker Association (Sofua) where he served as public relations officer until the formation of Gauteng Funeral Undertaker Association (Gafua) where he was a member until his untimely death.

Motlatsi's funeral company was recognised by the Gauteng department of social services.

He was awarded a certificate for contributing to social services provision, especially in the Child Protection Awareness Campaign.

Motlatsi is survived by seven children and grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at 1329 Tladi, Soweto, at 9am.

The cortege will leave for the Avalon Cemetery at 11am.
