When I first met Zama I did not think she would become such a dynamic, well-focused daughter-in-law to this family.
Zamaswazi, affectionately known as Zama, was born on March 5 1977 at Madadeni, Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. She matriculated in 1993 at Bethamoya High School and obtained her Mechanical Engineering Diploma at Technikon Northern Gauteng.
She joined the Gauteng department of public transport, roads and works where she worked for a year.
She then moved to Ellisras, now Lephalale, where she was employed by Eskom at Matimba power station as senior technician in the maintenance support services.
Zama, together with her husband John Hughes, started Mpumelelo Engineering Service Supplies in June 2004.
She tied the knot with John after they were blessed with a daughter, Akani, thirteen months ago. She opened a transportation business venture with her husband A year ago. She had vision and business skills.
Zama was an extraordinarily loving and warm person. She was passionate about her new family members, especially her mother-in-law, Florence.
An orphan from an early age, she made many friends. She also had the gift of giving to the poor. The pint-size Zama even went so far as to give her possessions away.
She obtained several diplomas in business management and was studying at Unisa.
Zama was a devout Christian and put the Lord first in all her successful endeavours.
We all loved Zama for her love of her culture.
We are going to miss a generous, kind-hearted woman, who will live on in our memories.
Zama was like an angel sent to do certain things in this world and then quickly return to where she belongs.
Zama died a week ago on Thursday at Lesedi Private Clinic in Soweto after a minor operation. She is survived by her husband, daughter and two siblings.
After a service at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Elim, Makhado, at 6am, the cortege will proceed to the Waterval Cemetery at 9am where she will be buried.
May her soul rest in peace.
