Winners of Boxing SA's Baby Champs development programme last year will finally get their belts before Christmas.

There has been a genuine concern from boxers, trainers and managers about the deafening silence from Boxing SA regarding the belts.

Bongani "Mr Fix-It" Khumalo, chief executive of Boxing SA, concurred it was a serious error that last year's champions did not get their belts on time.

"I share their sentiments. You cannot stage a tournament, boxers become champions and you don't give them their belts.

"I ordered 16 belts immediately after learning about that predicament.

"They were supposed to have been delivered this week but the supplier has given us assurance that the belts will be here next week," said Khumalo, who took office in June this year.

Half of last year's champions are from Eastern Cape with the rest from Gauteng, Limpopo, Western Cape and Mpumalanga.

"Under normal circumstance we would have a function and formally give belts to the champions, but because of the delay and the fact that this year's programme is moving towards the semifinal, we will target tournaments in those respective provinces," said Khumalo.

"We will invite champions from Limpopo and Mpumalanga to a tournament in Gauteng. Those from Eastern Cape and Western Cape will get theirs in a tournament in the Eastern Cape."
