Superintendent Izak van Zyl said the police received an accident report at 8am yesterday.
Inspector Renias Tshaka Mabaso, 43, died at the scene. He was an assistant relief commander at the Vosman police station.
Mabaso is survived by his wife, Patricia, and three children.
