The world soccer governing body will conduct seminars and workshops to explain the bidding processes for tour operating companies for the 2010 World Cup.

The workshops and seminars, which will take place in Sandton, Johannesburg, on November 26 and 27, are for the authorised tour operators. The events will form part of Soccerex, a yearly exhibition that is expected to inject more than R7 billion into the economy of Gauteng.

Gauteng provincial government is hosting the expos, which will be attended by the who's who of soccer and business in the world, for the next three years.

Barbara Creecy, Gauteng MEC for sports, arts, culture and recreation, said they will use Soccerex to showcase South Africa's readiness for the World Cup.

Representatives of Fifa, its ticketing sub committee and Match, the official Fifa ticketing and accommodation agent, will be at the workshops and seminars to explain the processes.

They will deal with the official policy, requirements and criteria. Fifa has announced that it will appoint about 160 authorised tour operators for the 2010 World Cup.

They said they were expecting more than 300 interested operators to attend the event, which will be opened by Marthinus van Shalkwyk. The minister of environmental affairs and tourism will speak on "Destination South Africa".
