The appointment was confirmed yesterday by Tim Modise, the committee's director of communications and marketing.
Dlamini takes over from internationally renowned political and economic commentator Eddie Maloka, who has since joined Nepad.
Dlamini worked in the office of the committee's chief executive, Danny Jordaan, prior to being moved to head the Legacy Projects.
The Legacy Committee plans to use the 2010 World Cup to improve infrastructure, especially in areas that were not serviced by the previous government.
They also work with the African Union to make sure that football is also improved on the continent and raise sponsorship.
In addition, the committee is luring the corporate world to help build and upgrade facilities in Africa in line with international requirements.
Dlamini joins an ever growing list of women appointed to senior positions in the organising committee as part of preparations for the tournament.
Her appointment comes after the board appointed former South African Airways general manager Nomfanelo Magwentshu as chief operations officer.
Other prominent women employed by the LOC include top sports administrators Tshikani Baloyi and Onke Mjo. Several messages left for Dlamini since Monday were not returned.
