A self-confessed murderer, Morris Yende, has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
Yende was sentenced by the Protea magistrate's court yesterday for murdering his girlfriend, Shirley Shiba, 28, last month.
A five-year sentence was suspended for five years on condition he did not commit any other crimes.
Yende strangled Shiba and dumped her body at the Doornkop Cemetery in Soweto. Shiba apparently had no visible wounds when she was found. It looked like a cord had been used to strangle her.
Jabulani police spokesman Inspector Kay Makhubela said "the case was concluded quickly because he confessed to the murder charge."
Yende was arrested a day after Shiba's body was discovered at the cemetery. He confessed to a priest that he had murdered Shiba.
Shiba lived with her fiance - who had paid lobola for her - a few houses away from her home. She had allegedly been secretly dating Yende. Yende allegedly wanted to commit suicide after killing Shiba because police found a suicide note on him when he was arrested.
"It was an apology to family and church members for killing himself. In the note, Yende mentions the deceased (Shiba) as the cause of his death because she had deceived and betrayed him," said Makhubela.
