Cell C is halving the number of free minutes over weekends it offers prepaid customers to ease congestion on parts of its network.

From this Saturday, Woza Weekend will only allow 60 free minutes instead of 120 free minutes on Cell C to Cell C calls.

Cell C prepaid customers need to recharge between Monday and Friday with any of the company's airtime recharge vouchers to get the free 60 minutes weekend calls.

The Woza Weekend offering has activated more that 1million new subscribers, said Cell C executive head of corporate communications Shenanda Janse van Rensburg.

The total number of minutes consumed during weekends on Cell C to Cell C calls skyrocketed to 16million, a 4000percent increase since the launch of Woza Weekend in June.

To ease congestion, which has mainly been confined to isolated areas, Cell C has increased its network capacity by 30percent in all affected areas and re-engineered its network to ensure more optimal routing of traffic.

"We are pleased that this intervention has improved our weekend call success rate. We will continue to upgrade the capacity to maintain high quality levels of service and delivery and to improve on the offering, ensuring that the millions of its supporters derive the best value for money and satisfaction from their interactions with Cell C," said van Rensburg. - Staff Reporter
