ANC silence gives criminals clout

I want to register my concerns about crime. I am a staunch supporter of the ANC government and I have always defended most of its actions, even blindly. But now I am not sure that the government that I love so much is interested in the welfare of its people.

We ordinary people are living in fear. Criminals have taken over the country and it appears that the government is as helpless as we are. How does anybody explain that in the past two months criminals killed more than 20 police officers and that in the past two years criminals killed over 600 police officers.

This is war, yet our leaders seem to take no notice. Criminals look at our government with scorn. If that is not the case, they would not be killing police officers as daringly as they do.

The most depressing thing about the crime is the silence from the government. The only time politicians talk about it is when they announce crime statistics, the authenticity of which is also suspect, or when they defend themselves against people who complain about crime. They never debate crime in parliament. Criminals sense that they are winning, while the people and the police are under siege.

The government needs to do something drastic, and very fast. The country is fast sliding into chaos.
