Athletics South Africa (ASA) has pledged to organise more Talent Identification Programme (TIP) seminars as part of their drive to empower more coaches.

ASA's development manager, Molatelo "Professor" Malehopo, said yesterday the seminars would help improve their coaches' skills to identify talent at grassroots level.

A five-day seminar held at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria last week was attended by 44 coaches from ASA's 17 provinces.

The seminar focused on crafting an effective TIP and was conducted by respected German doctor Ekkart Arbeit and members of ASA's elite coaches coordinating committee.

"It was the first time we held this seminar and we are going to organise it every year to ensure that we empower our coaches with the necessary skills to identify untapped talent which is in abundance in the country.

"We've no doubt that the seminar has intensified our coaches' talent identification capabilities and they will able to identify young talent among our youths," said Malehopo.
