The government of India will offer students bursaries to study in that country in honour of the late Norman Mashabane.

This was revealed by a representative of the Indian government Viramjit Singh Sahni yesterday at the memorial service of Mashabane at the Westenburg Hall outside Polokwane.

Mashabane died in car accident died on Wednesday last week with his son, Masetle, 18, while on their way from Gauteng.

Representatives of the Indonesian government also attended the service to offer their support to the Mashabanes. The service was attended by hordes of people, including politicians, business people, traditional and church leaders.

The accident happened at a notorious junction near the Meropa Casino and Entertainment World outside Polokwane.

Mashabane and his wife, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, worked in India and Indonesia as South African ambassadors respectively.

Nkoana-Mashabane is currently provincial MEC for local government and housing.

Mashabane will be buried in his hometown of Phalaborwa tomorrow. His son will be buried with his maternal relatives in Polokwane today.
