Explosive test for NFD pacesetters

Dynamos' title credentials will be tested by the plucky University of Pretoria when they meet in a top-of-the-table National First Division (NFD) Inland Stream clash at Lulekani Stadium in Phalaborwa tomorrow at 3pm.

Both teams are tied on top of the log on six points after winning their two opening matches of the restructured NFD this season.

This made them early favourites to win the eight-team Inland Stream this term.

July Malabela, the Dynamites' chairman, admitted yesterday that their clash against AmaTuks, the 2006-07 Platinum playoffs finalists, would be tough.

"It will not be easy against AmaTuks because they are a strong team," Malabela said.

Graham Oosthuis, AmaTuks' team manger, said his players were ready to overcome both the sweltering heat and Dynamos' home ground advantage tomorrow.

"Dynamos are a good side and the fact that they are on top of the log speaks volumes, but we can't afford to drop points against them," Oosthuis said.

The Dynamites have seasoned campaigners such as Rodney "Danger" Thobejane, Klaas Galane and Joseph Mthombeni who could prove a handful for the visitors.

AmaTuks' national under-23 forward George Maluleka is expected to lead the side's attack with dynamism.

In the Coastal Stream, the unbeaten Maritzburg United look set to remain on top of the log after their clash against Durban Stars, who are yet to shine this season.

The two sides meet in a KwaZulu-Natal derby at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg today at 8pm.
