For once the spotlight was firmly on the popular and exemplary celebrity couple, Lena and Bheki Ngcobo, better known as Ebony and Hashi Elimhlophe.

The highly respected couple's love and commitment to each other is a source of admiration tantamount to a fairy tale.

The lovebirds were pleasantly surprised when the lunch engagement they had been invited to by members of Muntuza Fan Club turned into a well-organised, huge glittering ceremony meant to celebrate them on Saturday, at Secunda's Recreation Centre, in Mbalenhle, Mpumalanga.

The couple was honoured for contributing to traditional music, maskandi and gospel in particular, and exemplary married life.

They were lauded for the sterling manner in which they had raised their equally successful four children Nkosinathi, Ntombi, Vusiwe and Jabulani, as well as their commitment to helping disadvantaged children within various communities.

Their children are in turn highly sought after musicians, proudly plying their trade in the traditional music arena, locally and overseas. Their group is called Amaponi.

"I almost fainted when I saw the number of people who were there. The hall was overflowing with local government officials, traditional music lovers, church leaders, upcoming traditional groups and the community at large," Bheki says. "Our involvement is simply pay-back time," points out Lena, his lovely wife.
