Jomo Sono, the South African soccer icon, will finally take the "hot seat" at the Sowetan Extra Time at Rosebank on Friday night.

Sono, a highly successful businessman, will deal with South African soccer development leading to the 2010 World Cup and beyond.

It comes hardly a month after Fifa president Sepp Blatter appointed the man also known as "Troublemaker" to serve on their development committee.

Extra Time is a popular monthly soccer gathering where ordinary people ask their leaders whatever questions about World Cup preparations and benefits.

The gathering returns to Gauteng after two successful events in Polokwane and Mangaung in August and September where the halls where packed to the rafters.

"It has generated a lot of interest, it is clear our people want to benefit from the 2010 World Cup," said Simphiwe Ndungane, Sowetan deputy marking manager.

"We are planning the last event for 2007 on November 4. Extra Time has been a resounding success and we thank all those who have been supporting us."

The event is hosted by Sowetan in partnership with The Famous Grouse Malt Whisky and e.tv. Some of the previous speakers are Irvin Khoza, Danny Jordaan, Tumi Makgabo, Trevor Phillips, Ria Ledwaba, Joe Phaahla, Gordon Igesund and Joe Mafereka.
