ANTANANARIVO - Faneva Andriatsima scored four goals as Madagascar opened the 2010 World Cup qualifiers in Africa with a 6-2 win over the Comoros Islands in Antananarivo on Sunday.

The French-based striker led an emphatic recovery after the World Cup newcomers had taken just eight minutes to score in their first ever qualifier.

Miktadi Daoudi took advantage of some sloppy defending to give the Comoros Islanders, playing only their fourth full international, a shock early lead before Andriatsima replied with four goals, two on each side of the break. The Nantes reserve team player had Madagascar 2-1 up at half-time with goals in the 32nd and 42nd minute and then completed his hat trick in the 49th minute.

But the Comoros, who will host the second leg of the preliminary round tie in Moroni on November 17, pulled back a goal three minutes later from Ibor Bakar.

Andriatsima then got his and the team's fourth in the 57th minutes before Rija Juvence Rakotomandimby made it 5-2 in the 66th minute. A sixth goal for Madagascar followed with 10 minutes left in the match, netted by Jean d'Or Tsaralaza. - Reuters
