The 19-year old Grade 11 pupil who was helped by her classmates to deliver twins before drowning them in a school toilet has a twin sister too.
The twins were thrown into the toilet at Senthibele Secondary School in Soshanguve, Pretoria, at about 11am on Wednesday.
She gave birth to to twins - a boy and a girl.
The babies allegedly suffocated instantly in the gushing toilet water but did not go down the drain.
Tshwane police spokesman Captain Lucas Sithole confirmed the incident and said police had launched a preliminary investigation into the incident.
"Our police officers from Rietgat police station visited the school yesterday and took statements at the school.
"The matter is being treated with the urgency it deserves and our actions will be based on the information that will come from the investigation," said Sithole.
Sithole would not say whether charges will be brought against the three schoolgirls, choosing only to say it was too early to comment.
