The 2010 World Cup board will meet at Safa House in Nasrec today to discuss the update on the stadiums in all the nine host cities for the tournament.

Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke is also expected to attend the meeting.

Topping the agenda will be the problems in Cape Town where it is reported that the budget for the new Green Point Stadium is gradually increasing.

Sowetan has learnt that the City of Cape Town has made it clear that they won't be making any additional funding available for the project.

This has resulted in the 2010 World Cup executive committee meeting on Friday. Their meeting continued yesterday to prepare for today.

Members of the executive committee include LOC chairman Irvin Khoza, chief executive Danny Jordaan and Safa president Molefi Oliphant.

Two political heavyweights, Minister in the Presidency Essop Pahad and Makhenkesi Stofile, Sports and Recreation Minister, are also on the committee.

They are expected to come up with recommendations to the full board today regarding the new challenges faced by Cape Town.

The construction of Green Point Stadium has always been in the news, long before the building process started, with a handful community members opposing it.

Tim Modise, LOC communications director and Peter Cronje, the 2010 City of Cape Town spokesman, could not be reached at the time of going to press.
