Umhlobo Wenene's afternoon drive host, Mthobeli August, aka K.CI, has been suspended.

August, who has been off air for the past two weeks, was suspended for questioning management about the "boring" music loaded in his play list.

A source close to the station said there were individuals who loaded theirfavourite music, demanding the afternoon host to play it.

"K.CI has been complaining that he was forced to play boring and unknown artists for his listeners. When he complained, he was suspended. He is expected to appear at the station's disciplinary hearing on October 15," said the source.

However, SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago denied that August had been suspended.

"I would not want to use the word suspended. I believe he has been taken off air because he has to clear some issues with management since he is a freelancer. I cannot divulge the issues until it is resolved."

August, who has made a name for himself in the radio broadcasting industry, is also releasing an album, hoping to capitalise on this fame.

The album, titled Umntu Ozayo, will be released by the end of this week through CCP/EMI.

August has admitted that he has been suspended, but did not want to divulge the details. He also denied that he was among the SABC deejays who are being investigated for allegations of taking payola.
