A Mpumalanga man who allegedly shot his wife's lover seven times after catching them relaxing in his car on Sunday night was denied bail by the KaBokweni magistrate's court yesterday.

Mandla Mathebula, 33, unsuccessfully made a formal bail application and was not asked to plead to a charge of murder, two of attempted murder and one of reckless driving.

He was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance on November 6 to allow police to conduct further investigations.

Mathebula is accused of killing Muzi Nkuna, 30, who he allegedly found with his wife.

Police said Nkuna, Mathebula's wife and a 17-year-old girl, had parked on the side of the road when Mathebula opened fire on them.

Nkuna was hit seven times and died on the scene, while Mathebula's wife and the teenager were both shot in the chest.

Mathebula's wife and the teenager are still fighting for their lives at a hospital in Nelspruit.

Mathebula was arrested on Monday night.
