The most talked about and eagerly-awaited shootout between Lucky "Babawazo" Lewele and Bongani "Cyclones" Mwelase is on.
Promoter Branco Milenkovic confirmed this yesterday.
"It will take place at Wembley Arena on November 9," he said. "I am currently working on the undercard, which could feature another WBC International title."
Lewele's World Boxing Council International title, the WBC's number seven rating as well as the SA welterweight belt, will all be at stake.
He won the voluntary defence of the SA title in September last year and the WBC belt in March this year.
Lewele stopped Thabo Mashishi in five rounds for the SA belt, which he has already defended twice - against Sabelo Mncwabe and Phumlani Menziwa.
Lewele added the International title in March by knocking out Germany's rising star Alpaslan Aguzum in eight rounds.
That fight took place on the undercard of the WBA cruiserweight championship between Henry Maske and Virgil Hill at the Olympia hall in Munich, Germany.
Mwelase is the left-handed Commonwealth Games gold medallist who is renowned for crippling power that has left all nine of his opponents gasping for air, five in the first round.
The Johnny du Plooy-trained left-hander has always shouted for Lewele to face him.
"Mwelase was delighted when I offered him the fight," said Milenkovic.
Boxing fundis view this clash as a mismatch in terms of experience. Lewele boasts 18 knockouts from 25 wins, against three losses.
But Mwelase says he spent quality time in the amateur ranks where he had about 400 fights, losing about 10, which gave him confidence to face any boxer.
