The gay feature in Sowetan on Friday is a dangerous generalisation and will definitely deepen the stereotypes around homosexuality. It is disappointing that such unfounded and misinformed views are fed to the public. The very public that is still coming to terms with the transitions and changes that recognise the rights for homosexuals.
The reports are one-sided, there are no credible sources and every article is questionable.
"Homosexual men are romantic and have always been associated with hair care," is just one view that puts a blanket on all those bald gay men! The speculation that boys become gay if they bond with one parent has no scientific backing. There are also no facts on what "causes" homosexuality.
The feature demeaned gays. Why weren't gay lobby groups interviewed? Why was there no comment from Contralesa or from Credo Mutwa on the claim that sangomas are forced to be gay? Why didn't anybody read publications on this issue? The so-called debate is an insult to the gay community.
