Sandile Moloi, 16, of Naledi in Soweto drowned in Rhode Park dam in Cleveland at the weekend while trying to save his glue after it was thrown into the dam by one of his friends, said Gauteng police spokesman Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht.

Engelbrecht said six boys were sitting at Rhode Park with Moloi, who was sniffing glue, when one his friends snatched it and threw it into the water.

She said Moloi jumped into the dam to retrieve his glue but ended up drowning.

Engelbrecht said an inquest docket has been opened by the Cleveland police.
