The Free State government has vowed to act against landless people who have invaded government land without authorisation.

Local government and housing MEC Joel Mafereka warned residents of Rammulotsi township in Viljoenskroon that those who have invaded the land will be dealt with.

Mafereka was addressing the public during an imbizo called by the Moqhaka local muni-cipality at Rammulotsi community hall at the weekend.

Premier Beatrice Marshoff, who was also present, said: "If you carry on invading that land, you are going to be arrested. That land does not have proper infrastructure, and there is a waiting list of people waiting for houses to be built on that land once it has been developed."

Provincial police commissioner Mzamani Nkuna said he had deployed a number of officers in the area to monitor the situation.
