The semifinals of the inaugural Soweto Primary Schools Rugby League will take place at the Roodepoort Rugby Club grounds tomorrow, starting at 10am.

The development event, played under the auspices of the Golden Lions Rugby Union, kicked off last month with five schools competing in the Under-11, Under-12 and Under-13 categories.

It started with a round-robin system and the two top teams in the groups in each division had automatically qualified for the semifinals. The participating schools are King Zwelithini, Thathani, Zola, Lukholweni and Molaetsa

Khaya Malotana, the union's development officer, said the tournament has created great interest in schools.

"The objective of this initiative is to popularise the sport at school level and unearth talent from the age groups of between eight to 15.

"Selected players after the tournament will be put into the union's development programmes,'' said Malotana..

The winners will get trophies
