Aiding pupils with flair for maths not 'elitist'

We appreciate the attention you gave our research report designed to assist policy makers achieve the national goal of increasing maths and science-based skills. These skills underpin South Africa's growth and black advancement targets.

However, we were not advocating "elitism" as your reporter suggested. What we are advocating is that students in dysfunctional schools who have potential for maths should be provided with bursaries to attend schools that actually teach higher grade maths and whose students pass.
