The South African Football Association (Safa) is contemplating introducing a new National Second Division (NSD) league from next season, which will replace the Vodacom league that is under way in nine provinces.

Confirming this, Zak Mosetle, Safa competitions manger, said: "The current 2007-08 Vodacom league is the tenth and last in the current format. The changes will begin to be visible from this year's national playoffs."

He said two teams a province (champions and runner-up) in the Vodacom league season will qualify for the national playoffs.

"The top two teams out of the eighteen will qualify for the National First Division (NFD) at the end of the playoffs.

"The remaining 16 teams, together with the two relegated from the NFD, will then form the NSD of 18 teams," he said.

Mosetle said the remaining 14 teams in the provinces and the two teams promoted from the SAB Regional leagues will then form the provincial league.

"Our aim with the league is to sustain football development, and the creation of a brand attractive to the corporate world," said Mosetle.

Meanwhile, the Vodacom league fixtures continue this weekend.
