Hats off to our teachers

We salute all teachers on the day set aside to honour the teaching profession. All nations are dependent on teachers to prepare our young people for the working world. They instil love and knowledge about the nation, country and the world.

We salute all teachers on the day set aside to honour the teaching profession. All nations are dependent on teachers to prepare our young people for the working world. They instil love and knowledge about the nation, country and the world.

Schools are the second most critical stage, outside the home, for the socialisation of the child into moral values, good behaviour and love of others.

We are grateful to those who undertake such strenous work for the perpetuation of mankind and the prosperity of communities. Teaching is a tough profession which sometimes seems like a thankless job. There is acute overcrowding in classes, inadequate resources and a mulish audience that seldom appreciates the pearls of wisdom cast before it.

Teachers are blamed for all the wrongs in school and for the failure of their charges to grasp the knowledge needed in the 21st Century.

Yes, there are teachers who are overwhelmed by the work. There are those who do not have a vocation for the delicate task of preparing future South Africans.

Nonetheless, our country would be in a poor state were it not for the tireless efforts of those who educate us.

All hail to the teachers.
