Youth to expose tourney

Eersterus Stadium will be a hive of activities when the local Academy Soccer tournament is staged on Saturday.

The competion, the first of its kind, will kick off at 9am to late in the afternoon.

Ingle Singh, who is the academy's director said they have 30 youngsters from Mamelodi and 40 from Eersterus. At weekends and during the school holidays they ferry these children to different soccer grounds where their respective teams are fixtured.

"We're catering for children who are from underprivileged communities. We started with this academy last year and already a number of children want to come over," he said.

He said during the tournament they will be having junior teams from Mamelodi, Eersterus, Atteridgeville and surrounding taking part in the event.

There will also be ladies' teams from the Under-13s and Under-15s who will be playing.

Teams that have already confirmed their participation are Flying Stars, Tuks, Mutombo Primary, PS Fourie and Jacaranda Primary School.

They will be having an exhibition game between the Eersterus Masters and the local Taxi Association. Singh added that the tournament is to expose it to a number of people who are unaware of its existence.
