Durban jives with Maputo

If you want to witness the Maputo Durban connection, the place to be is Sibaya Casino in Durban on Sunday.

Durban Maputo Connection, an eight-piece band of top South African and Mozambican musicians, will perform at the Imbizo Room at 5pm.

The concert will showcase original music as well as popular South African and Mozambican songs put together by four Mozambican musicians from Maputo and four South African musicians from Durban.

The event, conceived by Susan Barry and Philani Ngidi from Durban and Zoco Dimande from Mozambique, promises to be unforgettable.

The Mozambicans comprise percussionist Pilecas Nhavane from Kapa Besh; Zoco Dimande (guitar) who was leader of Mabulu, voted best group from Africa by BBC World in 2003; Jorge Sezar (vocals) who has done a lot of international work and has collaborated with Peter Gabriel and recorded with him at his London studio; Texito Langa (drums) who also has extensive international experience.

Durban musicians feature bass legend Philani Ngidi and Susan Barry (piano and keyboards), Lihle Ngidi (vocals) and Lebo Sebele (vocals).
