Prominent global sports medical scientists will attend a workshop in Galeshewe on Friday and Saturday to prepare for the 2010 World Cup.
The workshop, organised by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Fifa, is planned for the newly established Mayibuye Sports Science Institute in the area.
Some of the top brass who will conduct the workshop include Dr Michel H'hooge, chairman of the Fifa sports medical sub committee.
Others are Professor Jiri Dvorak, Fifa chief medical officer and Dr Victor Ramathesele, the LOC general medical officer.
Participants will include South African scientists such as Sports Science Institute's Tim Noakes, neurosurgeon Sam Mokgookong, Peter van der Merwe and Boya Mayosi.
Van der Merwe is the head of the doping control laboratory in Bloemfontein, while Mayosi is the head of cardiology in Cape Town.
Speakers will include Dipuo Peters, premier of Northern Cape and Danny Jordaan, chief executive officer of the LOC.
"The LOC and Fifa have put the workshop together to engage the LOC medical officers for the 10 match venues and for the LOC advisory board," said Ramathesele.
"The objective is to gain better understanding of the Fifa regulations for the provision of health, medical for doping control services for the 2009 Confederations Cup and World Cup related events.
"It also aims to demonstrate the expertise and resources available in the country to execute these functions."
