Mato Madlala, a PSL sponsorship committee member, has come out with guns blazing after claims that they were negotiating new deals to fill their pockets through the 10percent commission.

Madlala, the co-director of Lamontville Golden Arrows, said there was nothing sinister about the 10percent commission for people who secured sponsorship.

"It's crazy, I don't even know what to say. In the past, we had companies that sourced sponsorship for the league and we paid them the commission.

"For us the primary aim is to make money for our football. It is not true that we are doing it for ourselves," said a livid Madlala.

League chairman Irvin Khoza and Kaizer Motaung, who are also members of the sponsorship committee, could not be reached for comment.

But Khoza told Sunday Times yesterday: "It is a curse to be black, so it is difficult to comment against your leadership - the ANC government - especially coming from a party that has liberated you."

Meanwhile, the PSL executive will hold an urgent meeting on Thursday where a variety of issues, including allegations of a plot to "destabilise" the league, will be discussed.

This came after reports that certain members of the league were planning to pass a motion of no confidence in the current executive committee.

Other issues on the agenda include the contentious sponsorship commission, radio broadcast rights and the contract of a company marketing the PSL.

The PSL is reported to have been flooded with proposals from various regional and community radio stations to broadcast the league's matches.
