The ever-energetic and uncompromising workaholic, John "Preza" Maleho, was involved with Emndeni Young Ones Football Club in the early 1970s.
He was instrumental in acquiring the status of Moroka Swallows Big XV. In the 1980s Maleho contributed to forming People's Cultural Organisation (PCO) that became a national organisation.
At PCO he was a trustee responsible for operations and worked hard for it to be registered. It acquired its own undertakers that are situated in Zola 1 and North West respectively. In the face of turmoil and trouble in the inner circles of PCO, he stood steadfastly behind the community-based organisation he co-founded.
He brought in ideas that aimed at revamping PCO, like registering it as a profit-making cooperative, the celebration of African holidays and celebration of PCO's 25th anniversary.
Maleho displayed his political consciousness when he joined the PAC in 1990, at a time when everyone else was running away from politics as a result of violence.
As a card-carrying PAC member, he was elected branch chairman and unlike other branch leaders of other political parties, he was not narrow-minded when dealing with community issues. He proved that by being involved in the ward committee of ward 52 and became the chairman of Community Policing Forum in Naledi.
He will be buried tomorrow at Slovoville Cemetery.
The service will be held at Naledi Hall from 9am.
